The FAFSA Simplification Act was enacted into law as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021. Among other things, the law eliminated the requirement for male students to register with Selective Service before the age of 26 to be eligible for Title IV aid. Although Selective Service is not required for federal financial aid requirements, starting with the 2021-2022 aid year, it is still a requirement to qualify for any state funding from the Higher Education Aids Board (HEAB) in the state of Wisconsin.

Males (any persons assigned the sex of male at birth) who are at least 18 years of age and not currently on active duty with the U.S. Armed Forces, or who were born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with Selective Service. You must submit a copy of the State Required Selective Service Confirmation form (attached), along with the applicable supporting documentation.

Females (any persons assigned the sex of female at birth) who did not answer question 21 on the FAFSA must make a correction to this question on their FAFSA for resolution.
